Since the skin on our hands is very delicate, this area is often one of the first places where aging becomes noticeable. As the skin ages, the integrity and volume of the tissue begin to decrease. Since there is little fat stored in this area, your hands may begin to look gaunt and frail.

Hand rejuvenation procedures can prevent this decline in skin quality. Dr. Calabria offers fat grafting with stem cells to restore lost volume and restore youthful, smooth skin.

What Is Fat Grafting?

Fat grafting involves Dr. Calabria extracting fat from one part of your body to another via liposuction. After suctioning fat from one area, he will separate adult stem cells from the fat through a centrifuge. Adipose fat tissue is full of stem cells; liposuction is the most minimally invasive option to retrieve them.

Once the fat and stem cells are separated, Dr. Calabria will purify the stem cells through an enzymatic process. He will recombine the stem cells with fat cells and inject it into the treatment sites on your hands.

How Does It Help My Hands?

The injection of fat and stem cells is primarily used to add volume to your hands. As you age, the subcutaneous fat in your hands decreases. You will see skin that bags around your fingers, causing wrinkles and fine lines. You may even notice the increased appearance of veins, which may give your hands a subtle blue hue. With the addition of fat, your skin will plumpen, smoothing out the wrinkles and restoring a warm, vibrant skin tone.

Why Should I Consider This?

Fat grafting with stem cells is highly beneficial. Dr. Calabria restores volume with the fat from your own body, which means there is less risk of complications following the procedure. Your body recognizes the fat and stem cells as its own, minimizing the risk of rejection or allergic reaction.

While fat grafting does have a small risk of fat reabsorption, the addition of purified stem cells decreases that risk significantly (there is an approximate 80-percent retention rate).
